The idea

A simple framework for a far less simple question.

We all have a finite amount of time, attention and emotional energy. How we choose to use those resources directly shapes how fulfilled we feel. And yet most of us move through life without ever clearly naming what actually brings us joy.

Happiness Pie is a reflective, hands-on tool we use in workshops to help participants make that invisible recipe visible, so they can be honest about what's feeding them, what's not, and what small shifts might be worth making.

It's not about perfection. It's about awareness, alignment, and intentional shifts.
What you leave with

Four things every participant walks away holding.

No homework. No theory dump. Just a clearer picture of your own life, and a tool you can return to.

i.

Clarity on what happiness actually means

Beyond clichés and quick fixes. A personal working definition that holds up under real life.

ii.

Insight into your real sources of joy

The specific experiences, people, places and values that genuinely energize you, named in your own language.

iii.

Your own Happiness Pie

A personal "recipe" you create during the session. Visual, tangible, and unmistakably yours.

iv.

A reflective tool for the long run

Something you can revisit whenever life shifts, priorities change, or you feel quietly off-track.

Who it's for

Anyone able to ask themselves
"Does this make me happy?"

Youth exploring possibilities

For young people standing at the edge of decisions about life, work and identity, and figuring out what actually matters to them.

Workplace teams

For organizations navigating burnout, transitions, or growth seasons that need a thoughtful reset and a more human conversation about what's working.

Adults seeking better balance

For people sensing the gap between how they're spending their life and how they want to be spending it, and ready to do something about it.

Seniors reflecting on what matters

For people at any later-life chapter who want to take stock, name what's still nourishing, and shape the seasons ahead with intention.

People with special and unique needs

The workshop is adaptable for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, with pacing, prompts and materials adjusted so everyone can take part fully.

Happiness Pie is designed to be welcoming and accessible for people with special needs and intellectual disabilities. Let us know your group's needs when you book, and we'll adapt accordingly.

The format

Designed to fit your needs.

Customizable length

Anywhere from a focused one-hour session to a more immersive half-day workshop. We shape the timing around your group's energy, goals, and calendar.

Virtual or in person

Run as a live workshop in your space, or as an interactive virtual session with built-in pairing, exercises and small-group reflection.

Curated for your audience

Every Happiness Pie is shaped around the people in the room: youth, workplace teams, adults, seniors, and those with special and unique needs. Tone, prompts and pacing adjust to fit.

Who's behind it

Led by someone who actually facilitates it.

Happiness Pie is designed and delivered personally through HLP Consulting, not handed off to a rotating cast of contractors. Every session is grounded in real facilitation experience, with the same care and attention whether the room holds eight people or eighty.

Happiness Pie gave our team something we didn't know we needed, permission to pause and ask what actually feeds us. People left lighter, more honest with themselves, and genuinely talking to each other about what matters.

Community Connect Niagara
After running Happiness Pie with their team
Our residents are usually quiet in group activities, but this was different. People who hadn't spoken much all month were sharing stories about what still brings them joy. A few of them asked to keep their pie on their wall.

After a Happiness Pie session with residents
I booked this for a small group of friends going through a hard year, and it gave us a way to talk about things we usually just brush past. Lighthearted, but it actually went somewhere.

After a Happiness Pie session with friends
The youth in our program connected with this way more than I expected. It gave them language for things they feel but don't usually get asked about, and a few said it was the first time an adult asked what actually made them happy.
